Fifty years of service: congratulations W. Bro. Tony Hoskings!
On Thursday 24 September 2026, St Pirans Lodge No. 7620 in Perranporth had the pleasure of seeing W. Bro. Anthony Michael "Tony" Hoskings presented with his 50-year certificate. Grand Officer W. Bro. John Rabey made the presentation on behalf of the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, W. Bro. David G Maskell, in recognition of half a century of dedicated service to Freemasonry in general and Cornish Freemasonry in particular.
Tony was initiated into Trevaunance Lodge, St Agnes, on 10 August 1976 and went on to become Worshipful Master there in 1986. He joined St Pirans in 1998 and has since served as Treasurer across three periods totalling 12 years. He has also been Assistant Secretary, Inner Guard and Steward and was installed as Worshipful Master in 2014 and again in January 2026. He remains our Lodge Booking Secretary too. A Provincial Grand Steward since 1993, Tony was also presented with the Provincial Grand Master's Certificate of Service in April 2025.
Beyond the Lodge, Tony spent 22 years as managing director of Electrical Services (Cornwall) Ltd and has given decades to village life in Goonhavern, including time on the Community Centre Committee and the Garden Show Committee. He has built six properties and, with his brother David, two MGTF sports cars from scratch. These days you'll find him on the golf course twice a week, which he calls one of his wiser decisions.
A practical man with a great deal of common sense, Tony's skills have benefitted both of his Lodges in more ways than one.
And for a bit of fun, here's what 1976 looked like: a pint cost 32p, the average house was £12,704, James Hunt won the Formula One title, the Muppet Show premiered and the UK basked in a summer drought. Not bad company for a milestone like this.
Congratulations Tony and thank you for everything. 👏
